Announcements!
Have things to sell? Want to attend a convention? We have the solution! AICon is now looking for traders. If you’re interested, you can find more information here or contact our Trader’s Coordinator at traders@aicon.org.au. Don’t just wait for people to come to you. We’ll put you right in their way.

On a much smaller scale and far more immediate, if you have clutter lying around the house that you ‘really should get around to cleaning up’, we also have the solution. The second Great AICon Garage Sale is happening at the Sorell Market on the 18th of July. Anyone that wants to offload stuff is welcome. Bring a range of garage sale items, or if you want to make stuff, like cupcakes, you can do that too. AICon will be paying for the site and a double space has already been booked. If anyone has tables they can bring we would appreciate it. How much of your profits you donate to AICon is up to you. Last time we only asked for 10% and everyone gave about 50%. So do whatever feels right. If you can’t make it, but have stuff you want to sell, get it to us before the event and we’ll bring it with us, space in cars pending.

On the other hand if you’re looking to add to your clutter, do come and pay us a visit at the Market. There will be groaning and moaning about the time, (mostly) shiny things and insanity. More information about the Sale here.

LAN #14 is on for this Saturday (17th July). We have moved to the Hobart Showgrounds for the foreseeable future. For those interested, you can find more information here or through the link to the left.

So! Several things are happening. Exams are currently in full swing. To everyone who should be studying, good luck and godspeed.

For everyone else, we have these announcements for you:

Footage from 2010 AICon events will be up for your viewing pleasure soon. If you missed an event you really really wanted to see or if you want to relive the awesomeness, keep your eye on this space.

Along with that, we’re also going to get a shiny new website to poke around. This new site will also hold all the new information for next year’s con. Expect all this to happen vaguely within the next 2 weeks.

If you’re after something more concrete, the Hobart Zombie March is on this Saturday (19th June). If you’re interested but don’t feel like marching alone, you can probably find someone to hold your hand (or the guts spilling from your stomach) on the forums. We don’t bite…much. It was an isolated incident!

For those who have an aversion to the undead but find their Saturdays empty, there will be another LAN this Saturday from noon to 1 past midnight. Writeup of the previous LAN and what to expect in the coming one can be found here.

It seems that a lot of people have been busy recently. For those of you with exams coming up, good luck and study hard! For those with holidays, enjoy it for the rest of us. As for everyone else, keep on fighting!

There’s not much to report in terms of new developments, but tomorrow (Saturday 29th May) will be the last anime screening of the university semester. It will start up again in semester 2, but if you get the chance, come on down and say hi.

The fortnightly LANs are still running. The most recent one (Saturday 22nd May) was an epic affair. There’s always space for more if you’re interested in having some fun. It seems that we might be reaching capacity in terms of machines we can fit in the room, but don’t hesitate to come on down to the next one (Saturday 5th June).

I apologize for the lack of updates in the past weeks, but the committee is currently in the process of finalizing many many things. The moment something is concrete and I get permission to announce it, it’ll be up here.

Cheers all~

We’re attempting to put together a popularity contest of sorts to be run in the weeks leading up to the convention. It will run in the form of polls on this site. Currently, the only way of nominating is through the forums, so come on down and put down the name of your favourite character. Otherwise, keep an eye out on this site a few months from now for the polls to help name the ultimate and most loved character in AICon.

There’s also going to be a LAN running in the university this Saturday (08/05/10). We’re trying for a bigger crowd, a bigger variety of games and a bigger bucket of fun. Consolers and PC gamers alike are welcome! This will also be where you can buy raffle tickets from us. As if that wasn’t enough, it will be the birthday of our very own Zuzu, or perhaps more commonly known as Aiko from the convention. If you’re interested, check the link on the left or click here.

The venue and dates for next year’s AICon have been set. Unfortunately, we have outgrown the Sir Stanley Burbury theatre in the University. However, we have a shiny new playground called the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

Let me break it down for you:
Who: You!
What: Anime Island Convention (AICon)
Where: Derwent Entertainment Centre (DEC)
When: 5th to 6th of March 2011
Why: It will be buckets and buckets of fun.

Next year is going to be bigger and better than ever. Don’t believe me? Be at the DEC on the 5th and 6th! We’ll prove it to you. In all seriousness, this growth could not happen without your support, so on behalf of everyone on the committee I would like to thank all of you out there in reader-land.
In more immediate news, there will be an anime screening this Saturday. This will be a good place to get your hands on raffle tickets for the awesome prizes, so check out the Anime Society website for further information.
That is all ladies and gentlemen, have a good week.

To those of you who showed up to the LAN on Saturday, I’d just like to extend a huge thank you for an amazing day of gaming. As always, there will be a LAN two Saturdays from now. To anyone and everyone that is interested, there’s always room for more.
I promised you more info on the raffle, so here’s a list of the awesome prizes:

Fairly straight forward math.
The drawing will occur in August, but don’t wait for the last moment. Hunt us down now and get your tickets. You can always find someone with a book to sell at either the LANs or the Anime Society Screenings.

Hello boys and girls.

Yes that’s right, it’s an update. After a month and a half of recovery, we’re well on our way back to another great con!

While the masses are reeling from the sheer awesome that was the 2010 AICon, work is already underway for the AICon 2011! We hope to be able to keep you updated throughout the year leading up to the convention, so check back often.

Now on to the announcements:

The theme for 2011 has been decided. Lips are still sealed, but expect an official announcement to be forthcoming, so stay tuned.

Raffle tickets are being sold to raise some money for the convention. The prizes being offered are made from pure awesome. A full list will be up soon. If you are interested, you can pick them up at any AICon or ASoc events.
Currently we are aiming to have either one at least once a week.

For those not interested in winning awesome stuff (seriously?), you can still help raise money by selling books.
I think you can see a trend when I say more information will be released soon.

Also, the 8th AICon LAN is scheduled for this Saturday. It will run from noon to midnight. Anyone in and around Hobart that might be interested can click the link on the sidebar to the left.

Everyone else can also click on the link and read about what goes on in the LANs.
